Installing an Additional Domain Controller using IFM
In previous post we have discuss on windows server backup tools in backup tools we created IFM using NTDSUTIL now In this post we are going to configure ADC using IFM You can install Additional domain controller by installing active directory domain services or by running DCPROMO command you can do it with two methods direct install ADC or installing an additional domain controller using IFM installing ADC using IFM decrease your replication traffic you can use this method for installing ADC on remote site or sites with low bandwidth you can also create as many domain controllers you want to create with this single IFM
For installing an additional domain controller using IFM you have to create IFM(install from media) first then we create ADC using that IFM I have one domain controller already installed domain name thetechnosolution.com now we are going to install ADC follow steps given below.
Creating Install From Media Server 2008
Open command prompt with admin privileges run command ntdsutil
Then run command Active instance ntds
Run Ifm
Type ? and hit enter
You can see all available options with IFM command
Run command Create Sysvol Full E:\IFM (Here E is the path where we save IFM)IFM starts creating snapshot
When IFM media created you got a message IFM media created successfully
IFM created successfully now we are going to installing an additional domain controller using IFM follow steps given below
Open Server manager click on add roles to add role at before you begin screen click next
At select server roles window select Active directory domain services role and click next
At active directory domain services window click next
On confirm installation selections check and confirm your selection after that click on install to install role

Click yes to continue installation
This is step is very important for installing an additional domain controller using IFM
From install from media window select location where you have IFM(You can not select network location copy IFM on local hard drive) then click next
