Deploy Windows 7 Operating System on Network Without any Server With the help of MDT
In this post we are going to discuss on how to deploy windows 7 on network without any server for example if you have windows operating system installed on your home or office and don’t want to setup servers for operating system deployments than this is the right place where you get information on how to install operating systems like window 7 on network without any server. It is possible via MDT(Microsoft deployment toolkit) a free tool provided by Microsoft and I love this tool and I love to write on MDT. In my previous posts we discussed on how to deploy windows 7, windows 8.1 with MDT but we done all things with the help of AD,DNS,DHCP and WDS server and in this post we are going to deploy windows 7 using MDT but without any server or server operating system. We just need an windows 7 operating system installed desktop or laptop and you can make your windows 7 laptop or desktop as a deployment server.
Requirements for this lab:
Windows 7 operating system
Windows 7 operating system DVD
Laptop or Desktop with LAN card and with DVD Rom
MDT and ADK 8.1 Setup
Steps for making windows 7 as a deployment server
First of all you have admin user on windows 7 to perform all task with password protected(Admin user with password)
Download ADK 8.1 and MDT 2013 if you don’t have MDT setup and install MDT 2013 on windows 7 operating system see my previous post on how to install MDT in this post I install MDT on Server 2012 r2 the process of installation is same for both window 7 and Server 2012 r2
After installing MDT on windows 7 system open MDT workbench go to operating system and import windows 7 operating system from windows 7 DVD see my previous post on how to deploy windows 7 using MDT there you can see how to import operating system and how to create task sequence on MDT steps are same for importing windows 7 operating system, Importing drivers, Creating task sequence first do these steps then proceed for next step
After importing operating system and creating task sequence update your MDT deployment share by right clicking on MDT deployment share then select Update MDT deployment share.
After updation go to C drive where you find DeploymentShare folder open it then you can find boot folder in boot folder you can find .wim and .iso files we don’t have any WDS server so we can’t use .wim files we have to use .iso file i.e LiteTouchPE_x86.iso burn this LiteTouchPE_x86.iso file on CD or make bootable USB and copy all content of this .iso file on USB and boot your system(Where you want to install windows 7) with USB or CD
After booting your screen look like given below now we don’t have any DHCP server on our network so we have to configure IP address manually click on Configure with Static IP Address
Then configure static IP according to your network and in DNS use IP address of that system on which MDT is installed and configured
Run deployment wizard by clicking on Run the deployment wizard to install a new operating system
In this screen type your windows 7 user name and password and on domain type IP address of windows 7 system(MDT system)
Then select your task sequence which we created earlier i.e windows 7 and click on next
Type computer name and click next
Click on do not move user data and settings
Specify language and regional settings then click on next
Click on do not capture an image of this computer then click on next
Click on begin
MDT installing windows 7
After installation you can see a message operating system deployment completed successfully
Your windows 7 system is deployed and ready for use you can also deploy other operating system like windows 8, windows 8.1 with same guide all process are same.
You can also see other posts on MDT by following link given below you love MDT after seeing all posts on MDT
