Configuring Discovery and Boundaries in SCCM 2012 R2
In previous post we discussed on SCCM 2012 R2 installation now it’s time to configure it in this post we are going to discuss on configuring discovery and boundaries in SCCM 2012 R2 If you had not read SCCM 2012 R2 installation post then first check my previous post on SCCM 2012 R2 installation
Steps for Configure Discovery in Configuration Manager 2012 R2
Go to Administration then hierarchy configuration Select Discovery Methods here you can find Active Directory Forest Discovery, Active Directory Group Discovery, Active Directory User Discovery, Heartbeat Discovery and Network Discovery all are disable except Heartbeat Discovery now we are going to configure Discoveries
Select Active Directory Forest Discovery right click on it then click on properties
Check on Enable active directory forest discovery, Automatically create active directory site boundaries when they are discovered, Automatically create IP address range boundaries for IP subnets when they are discovered then click on apply then click yes when configuration manger window ask Do you want to run full discovery as soon as possible? then click ok
Go to active directory group discovery properties and enable then click on Add and select location
Click on browse select domain name here is thetechnosolution.com
Type group name as per yours then click on ok click on apply then ok
Now configure active directory system discovery to do this go to on active directory system discovery properties
Enable active directory system discovery option then click on star like icon then select domain name path from browse
Click on apply then ok
Go to active directory user discovery properties enable active directory user discovery browse your domain name as we done in previous step then click on ok
Creating Boundary Group
Select boundary group right click on it select create boundary group
Type group name then click on add to add
Select site from add boundaries then click ok
Go to reference window on create boundary group check use this boundary group for site assignment then click on add
At this window select server name and click on ok
Click on apply to apply settings then click on ok
You can see boundary group is created
Configuration of discovery and boundaries is complete

Can I add servers which are not been added to domain? As non of our 2003, 2008 and 2012 servers are in Domain, only the client pcs and users are.
Our main purpose of having SCCM 2012 is to do windows patching to servers….
